I am a partner in the law firm of Todd & Weld in Boston, Massachusetts. I focus on representing victims of catastrophic injuries in the areas of medical negligence, product liability, auto accident, class action, and other personal injury cases. I am also Vice-President of the Massachusetts Bar Association.
I grew up outside of Scranton, Pennsylvania and attended the University of Scranton. After college, I worked with underprivileged children in Boston as a full-time volunteer for one year with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps. I then attended Boston College Law School, became President of the Public Interest Law Foundation, and received the law school’s “Professional and Personal Achievement Award.” Following law school, my wife Elizabeth and I created the non-profit Public Interest Law Project, which provided stipends to law students who worked during the summer to assist impoverished individuals. Our committment to public interest led us to co-chair fundraising events for the Jesuit Volunteer Corps and Health Law Advocates (HLA), a non-profit law firm that provides legal assistance to those who are denied access to health care. I am also on the Board of Directors for HLA, where my pro bono work includes patient advocacy and representing chronically ill and impoverished people.
Above all, I am an advocate for victim rights — one who firmly believes in the integrity of our legal process. I believe it serves a valuable role in helping to alleviate the substantial burdens incurred by those who are injured, while also improving consumer and patient safety by encouraging individuals and corporations to use methods that prevent dangerous conduct and resulting harm. I have spoken on patient rights and medical-legal issues on national television and for bar associations across the state. I have also testified before the Massachusetts State Legislature against tort reform legislation on behalf of the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys.
I was recently very honored receive an “Rx for Excellence – Hero from the Field” Award from the Massachusetts Medical Law Report in October, 2009. This award is presented to health care experts who strive for quality health care and patient rights.
I am proud that our dedication to our cases and successes has resulted in our firm being ranked as one of the top medical malpractice and personal injury firms by U.S. News and World Report in 2010.
I live in Boston with my wife and two young children.
